Great Piece of Engineering - the 6-Channel CP Helicopter Walkera V100D03BL
The smaller it is, the harder to make. Walkera pushed the envelope again and make the Collective Pitch Helicopter one step smaller, the V100D03BL, it is a 6-Channel CCPM Helicopter, able to perform 3D aerobatics. There were a lot other Walkera models that can play 3D, but not at this small size. Factory faced a bit of challenge on this model, that's the Servos, they need to fast, durable, small and light, but they did it. Everything just like it's brother V120 series, thanks to the Flybarless Rotor Head, it consume less energy than ordinary flybar models, some people make ask, why they use Plastic for the Rotor Head? I would simply say for parts this small, sometimes it's more economical and better craftsmanship to use Plastic parts, since they came form same "Mold", to minimize the micro metal work error, which we've seen this kind of error in the past. For the 2.4Ghz receiver, it has a 3-Axis Gyro on broad, it did the job very well, it flies just like a "Big Helicopter" with Flybar, very impressive, and it's able to perform 3D aerobatics, soft and elegant, not "Hardcore" style. Another thing which will catch your attention is the agility of the heli,, you move throttle stick upward and the respond is almost instant, no delay, it's because of the weight, it's light (54 grams with battery), so you get different feelings than it's big brother the V120 or M120 series.
What about the name "V100D03BL"?
I think we need to explain a bit on the long name, "V" means it's flybarless series, "100" means the size, the biggest RC Helicopter class is "700" class, about 2 meters long, and "D03" is the variation of the "V100" family, there were another heli called V100D01 (Fixed Pitch), and lastly, "BL" means it's a brushless version, please don't ask me why they name it this way.....
What is 3-Axis Gyro?
3-Axis Gyro means it can sense X, Y and Z axis moments, that means body leaning forward / backward, body rolling left / right, tail drifting CW / CWW, it will constantly monitoring any off-balance in all directions, then it will give signals to all CCPM servos and Rudder servo to balance the helicopter, it works constantly and unless you have the helicopter drifts to much, you will not even notice the system exists, please take a look at the following picture.
